EMERGENCY services were alerted following reports a windsurfer was in difficulty off the Newquay coastline.

Newquay RNLI’s B class lifeboat, Uncle Johnny, and Newquay Coastguard Rescue Team, were tasked to attend the incident to the east of Towan Headland on Wednesday, May 28 at 2.35pm.

The lifeboat crew spoke to the foil surfer who confirmed they were ok and required no assistance. The emergency services were stood down once the foil surfer got safely ashore.

A spokesperson for Newquay RNLI Lifeboats said: “Newquay RNLI lifeboat volunteers were paged and tasked to investigate reports of a foil boarder appearing to be in difficulty.

“The charity’s B class lifeboat arrived on scene where the crew began a search. The casualty was located making their way to the old lifeboat slip.

“The crew of the lifeboat did a welfare check and the casualty confirmed that they did not require any assistance and were happy to self-recover.”
