OVER 30 per cent of all GCSE grades at Falmouth School were awarded at Grades 7 to 9, as students celebrated an exceptional set of GCSE and BTEC results today (Thursday). Students and staff are celebrating some of the school’s strongest results in recent years, continuing a pattern of year-on-year improvement with one in five students achieving at least one Grade 9.
Behind the results are five years of hard work, ambition and determination from students, supported by staff who have consistently encouraged them to aim high, and families who have been alongside them throughout their secondary school journey. Across the cohort there were wonderful individual success stories, from students achieving a clean sweep of Grade 9s to those whose results represented significant personal achievement, resilience and progress.
Flo Jubb achieved an outstanding eight Grade 9s, including double Grade 9 in Combined Science and Grade 9s in English literature, French, geography, history, maths and statistics. “I’m really happy with my results,” she said.
“I’ve worked hard for them and the teachers at Falmouth have been amazing, they really do make a difference. I’m now really excited to start the International Baccalaureate at Truro College.” Flo’s mum, Eleanor, said: “Flo is delighted with her GCSE results and we are incredibly proud of her. We’d like to thank everyone at Falmouth School for all the kindness and support they have given her over the last five years.” Ennis Masterton also achieved six Grade 9s, in biology, chemistry, further maths, geography, maths and physics, as part of an exceptional set of results. “It didn’t come easily, so I’m incredibly pleased with my results,” he said. “It’s hard to put into words how it feels to see all of that hard work pay off.”
Headteacher Joanne Guest said: “We are incredibly proud of our Year 11 students and everything they have achieved. Our results continue to improve year on year, with this year representing some of our strongest outcomes in recent years. That is a wonderful reflection of our students’ ambition and determination.
“Whether they are celebrating a collection of the very highest grades or results that have required enormous personal determination to achieve, I hope every one of them feels incredibly proud of themselves." Many students will be staying at Falmouth VI Form to continue their academic journey and study A Levels, while others will progress to colleges, apprenticeships, training and employment, pursuing a wide range of exciting pathways.
Lauren Miller, Learning Leader for Year 11, said: “What makes this year group so special is that there are so many different success stories, and every student has their own reason to feel proud.
“A huge thank you must also go to our staff and families for everything they have done to support them. We wish all of our students every success in their next steps.”
