The New Year’s Day swim at Gorran Haven, organised by St Goran Rowing Club was a great success.

More than 100 people took part and many more supporters.

Local Cornwall Councillor Michael Bunney, also vice chairman of St Goran Rowing Club, said: “Thank you to everyone for helping and taking part.

“The swim followed a brilliant evening of celebrations and fireworks in Gorran Haven.

“It was a great team effort and we raised £1,135.02 for local charities.

“Donations on the beach will go to the RNLI, which total £705.02.

“Thank you to the Mevagissey RNLI branch and Gorran Haven Cold Water swimmers especially for helping with the swim.”

St Goran Rowing Club also held a warm-up coffee morning in the village hall afterwards and raised £430 for the Fisherman’s Mission, with a raffle and cake auction.

Cllr Bunney said: “The swim is a long tradition in Gorran Haven and a brilliant way to start 2023.

“It was lovely so many local people and visitors could join us.”
