FOOTPATHS have reopened in Truro’s Victoria Gardens following the removal of a “dangerous” tree. The area surrounding the Monterey Pine had been sealed off pending work which required a large aerial platform due to the size of the tree.

Town clerk David Rodda said the tree was condemned following Truro City Council’s annual tree inspection. “It was dangerous due to the trunk splitting,” he said. “It was at risk of coming down very quickly, and if a tree that size comes down, it risks damaging property and possibly people.

“It was a good job we scheduled it when we did, as a few days before we took it down, the crack opened up even more and you could see daylight through it. We had to do it.”
