A SECONDARY school in Truro has been forced to close for two days this week as the result of a potential cybersecurity issue affecting IT systems.
Representatives of Richard Lander School reported via social media that an investigation was ongoing but there appeared to be “no evidence that personal data has been compromised”.
However, it was deemed that the “cyber incident” limited access to the school’s data sufficiently to “affect the ability of the school to function and to offer appropriate safeguarding to students”.
Following consultation with the local authority, the school was closed to all students on Monday [June 30] and Tuesday [July 1]. Geography field trips planned for those days, and the Year 10 College Day planned for Thursday, July 3, were cancelled.
The school planned to open to all year groups on Wednesday, July, 2, and to proceed with the annual Sports Presentation Evening on that day.
Students have been requested to take packed lunched for the remainder of the term due to the IT systems in the canteen "not functioning, which is causing some queuing”.
A school spokesperson said: “The council is working closely with the school to ensure that we have the right support and expertise available to properly assess the situation.”
