THE mighty Cribbar wave in Newquay awakened during the first large swell of the winter on Wednesday morning (December 3).

A group of surfers including Tom Major, Tom Butler, Owen Stoneman and Max Colvin rode the giant waves that lurched up at the reef break at around 9am. A small crowd gathered at Towan Headland to watch the drama unfold.

Photographer Geoff Tydeman said: “It was a great Cribbar session mainly because of the sunshine, which made it a good for the riders and for the photos.

“It was lucky to get the weather window for the Cribbar to break. The swell will be there but the forecast for the coming days is rain and very windy.”
