A CRAFTER from Summercourt is carving out a career creating autumnal and Cornish tartan pumpkin decorations.

Susan Burnett has been selling the Halloween pumpkins as quickly as she can make them.

People living as far as the United States have been buying her pumpkin creations to embrace the autumn season in style.

Susan said: “The Halloween pumpkins have been selling so well.

“The Seiners Arms in Perranporth bought 27 and I’ve had orders from as far away as the United States.

“I think the pumpkins have been so popular because it is an Americanism that has found its way over to the UK. Halloween is really big over there and its catching on over here. People like to celebrate a festive occasion and there are so many talented crafters in Cornwall. People appreciate handmade things more.

Susan says her ‘trick’ to make the Halloween pumpkin ‘treats’ is using a traditional Japanese crafting technique called Kimekoni.

She said: “The pumpkins are made out of polystyrene and tucking fabric into carved lines but for me the finishes touches are the embellishments.”
