THE annual mayor making has taken place in St Austell at a colourful ceremony attended by town councillors, visiting dignitaries, members of the community – and a primary school choir.

Cllr Colin Hamilton is the new mayor of the town, following on from Cllr Julian Young. The new deputy mayor is Cllr Ethan Stephens.

The mayor making ceremony took place at Holy Trinity Church in the town centre.

As part of the event, the Sandy Hill Academy choir gave a performance.

A school spokesperson said: “Some members of our amazing choir were lucky enough to perform at the ceremony. We are so proud of them.”

In recognition of their contribution, the new mayor presented the choir with a certificate of appreciation.
