THE stories behind Cornwall’s ancient wells will be explored at a forthcoming history talk being staged in Newquay.
Guy English will be presenting an illustrated talk on Holy Wells of Cornwall, which were once sites of pagan worship, will be held in the Great Western Hotel function room on Tuesday, November 11 at 7.30pm.
Newquay Museum Group is organising the event. Chairman Len Sheppard said: “Cornwall the 'Land of Saints' is well-known for the number of holy wells' scattered about our Cornish countryside.
“Many of these originated as pagan places of veneration then converted to Christian use. We have a good number within the parishes surrounding Newquay including at Trevornick which is overseen by our Newquay scrub-bashers.”
All are welcome to attend.
