Cast members of hit Cornwall-filmed TV show Doc Martin have backed a Cornish charity ahead of starring in a Christmas Day TV special.

The actors have supported ShelterBox during their years of filming in Port Isaac and are reflecting on how simple but essential items can make such a big difference to people affected by conflict and disasters across the world.

John Marquez, who plays PC Joseph Penhale in the drama series which stars Martin Clunes, says: “It’s clear that the aid is tangible – it makes a difference – and I think that’s why people like ShelterBox.

"They recognise the importance of community, of home, and they are always working somewhere different helping people most in need.”

ShelterBox has helped more than two million people since 2000 and is currently providing aid to people affected by the war in Ukraine, the monsoon flooding in Pakistan, and the worst drought to hit East Africa in the last 40 years.

The charity is also working to support people in Yemen, Syria, Burkina Faso, Cameroon, Nigeria, Ethiopia, the Philippines, and Mozambique.

The Christmas Day Doc Martin will air at 9pm on ITV.
