ST IVES Town Council and St Ives Business Improvement District (BID) have welcomed the news that St Ives beaches (Porthminster and Porthmeor) and Carbis Bay have been awarded blue flag status.
A Blue Flag is an environmental award, which reflects high quality management of coastal water environments and beaches. Receiving the coveted award each year is a great boost to both the environment and the economy of the area.
The announcement is especially significant as a start to the St Ives Food Festival weekend which highlights how important the beaches are to the town spirit.
Speaking about the announcement, mayor of St Ives, Johnnie Wells said: “The Council is thrilled that our beaches have once again secured blue flag status.
“The Town Council thanks the contributions made by beach operators, the RNLI and Cornwall Council to managing and maintaining these important spaces, which are at the heart of St Ives life.
“But we must be vigilant and tireless in ensuing that St Ives water quality and beaches are protected for future generations.”
Alex Ward, Chair of St Ives BID said: “St Ives BID welcomes the news and is proud that local businesses help manage and maintain these beautiful spaces.
“Our beaches are what make St Ives special to residents and visitors alike. At the start of a busy weekend for St Ives, we encourage everyone to visit our shining white beaches enjoy all that St Ives has to offer.”
