Newquay’s community garden has staged a fair for the first time since before the coronavirus pandemic.

More than 3,000 people visited Newquay Orchard to see a showcase of everything that was on offer.

The community market was packed with local sellers, while open-air entertainment on the terraces was provided by Rewind radio, children’s entertainer Harry Kazzam and Sprout Spoken poets, with a finale from the Orchard’s community choir, the Orchard Voices.

Volunteers and students helped to run horticultural and environmental activities, in the market garden, and classrooms giving a taste of the activities that happen at the Orchard every week.

Elsewhere, visitors had a chance to try bushcrafts, yoga and reflexology, and Cornwall Bicycle Project CIC helped locals to get back into the saddle with refurbished bikes for sale.

Newquay Orchard chief operating officer Jenny Hindson said: “We had the most amazing day in the sunshine and were delighted to welcome so many people from our local community.

“Newquay Orchard is built by the community, for the community, and the day really highlighted how much joy it can bring to everyone.”
