A COLOURFUL mural has been created to welcome people arriving in Newquay.

Jack Tierney from Slapdash Studios has spray painted a Welcome to Newquay artwork on Newquay Town Council’s public toilet block at Newquay Train Station.

The vibrant mural has been funded by the Boardmasters Foundation and will become part of the free street art walking trail celebrating Newquay’s unique heritage and identity, which aims to attract people to the town.

Mayor Drew Creek said: “It is great to see our free public toilets at the railway station getting a new facelift thanks to Slapdash Studio.

“I would like to thank the Boardmasters Foundation for funding the mural and Newquay Town Council for getting it sorted before the festival goers arrive.

“I’ve been saying since we installed the public toilet block, we should get it wrapped or painted so I was really pleased Boardmasters felt the same and wanted to fund it.

“The artists at Slapdash Studio who have delivered this artwork are responsible for the wider mural trail through town.

“I am really pleased with how this one has come out and it’s far more interesting for people coming off the train as the first thing they see upon arrival.

“It will form part of the wider mural trail through town which will also include the upcoming one on the railway station underpass alongside Burger King.”

Newquay BID has been working with Cornwall Council to spruce up the Newquay Train Station underpass ahead of the new mural being created. The artwork will be based on the history of the railway and arriving in Newquay.

Work on the mural, which is being delivered by Slapdash Studio and funded by Great Western Railway, is earmarked to start at the end of August.
