COASTGUARD rescued a dog stuck on cliffs near Watergate Bay beach on Thursday. (September 4)

A rope technician was lowered down to the dog and brought down safely to the bottom of the cliff to be reunited with its owner at about 12.30pm. The dog was uninjured.

A spokesperson for Newquay Coastguard Rescue Team said: “We were tasked alongside HM Coastguard Padstow and RNLI Lifeguards Newquay after reports came in of a dog stuck on the cliffs near Watergate Beach.

“After arriving on scene and assessing the situation, a technical rope rescue was set up and carried out. A rope technician was lowered down to the dog and brought down safely to the bottom of the cliff. Thankfully the dog was uninjured and reunited with its owner once back on the ground.

“We would like to remind people to always keep you dog on a lead when in the vicinity of cliffs, no matter how well behaved you feel they are.”
