Children’s Day returns to Truro city centre on Saturday [June 21], offering free activities including exciting mountain bike stunt shows, have-a-go sessions in cycling and circus skills and dance performances on Lemon Quay.
Businesses and organisations are supporting the event by offering more than 30 exclusive family-friendly activities and offers in their shops and eateries.
Activities range from free colouring and refreshments at CLEAR in Cathedral Lane, to making your own animal mask at Cornwall Museum and Art Gallery, and joining Hall for Cornwall’s Get Creative Team in the Green Room Café for stories, music and games.
Waterstones will host doggy-themed games and activities, including the opportunity to 'feed' a full-sized papier-mâché dog called Dreckly, inspired by new picture book by Cornwall-based author Anna Wilson.
There will also be selfie opportunities with Percy Pig, who will meet and greet at M&S from 10am to 2pm; and Pikachu, courtesy of Geek Retreat in the Leats.
Stores including Griggs and Saltrock will have special offers in store.
Children’s Day is being brought to the city by Truro BID and sponsored by Coodes Solicitors. Truro BID has encouraged businesses to take part to help attract families to stay for longer in the city.
Alun Jones, Truro BID Manager said: “We’re always keen to involve resident businesses in our events when possible. We hope the in-store offers and activities, along the other elements we’ve organised, will enable families to enjoy a huge variety of activities on the day.”
Truro Farmers Market traders will relocate to Boscawen Street to allow more space for family activities on Lemon Quay. A Children’s Day Street Market will run across Boscawen Street, Pydar Street and High Cross.
Road closures will be in place across the city from 5am to 7pm, and from 6am to 6pm on Pydar Street.
