Families can enjoy fun activities and entertainment in the city centre when Children’s Day returns for its sixth year on Saturday, July 1 between 10am until 4pm.
Organised by Truro BID and sponsored by Coodes Solicitors, the event will see nearly 30 city centre businesses and organisations join forces to make children and young people their focus.
Highlights will include spectacular mountain bike stunt shows and demos of skateboarding and performance parkour demos on Lemon Quay, as well as dance sessions with InspirAsian Dance, Cornwall Dance School, Jason Thomas Performing Arts and Stagecoach Truro.
Walking and cycling charity Sustrans will be running a free scooter, balance and pedal bike obstacle course for children, plus an exciting static cycle activity for young people to improve their off-road skills (bikes and helmets provided).
There will be plenty of have-a-go opportunities, including with Swamp Circus. Most activities are free, but some will carry a cost, such as swing boats and crazy golf.
Lemon Quay will host a selection of market stalls featuring art activities, games, handling of objects from the Royal Cornwall Museum, artefacts discovered on the Pydar Regeneration project, and items to buy.
The Royal Cornwall Museum on River Street will put on a Victorian Magic Lantern Show at the top of the building (accessed through a narrow flight of stairs), taking place every half-hour from 10.30am until 3pm.
Street entertainment will pop up across the city, while many shops and eateries will have family-friendly in-store activities and offers such as giveaways, competitions and meal deals.
Circus performers will wander around the city between 11am and 3pm.
Truro Farmers’ Market will relocate to Boscawen Street for the day, with the twin aims of giving more space for the activities on Lemon Quay and helping to bring additional footfall to Boscawen Street.
