A TRURO charity shop team is calling on the community to have a New Year clear-out and donate good-quality, pre-loved items.
The Children’s Hospice South West’s (CHSW) store at 13 Victoria Square plays a vital role in raising funds to provide care for babies, children and young people with life-limiting conditions and their families across the South West.
Every donated item - from clothing and accessories to books, toys and homeware – pays for essential support for families, such as hospice days and stays at three sites including Little Harbour in St Austell; specialist, emergency and end-of-life care, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year; and bereavement support. It costs around £14 million annually to run the three hospice sites, and the charity relies almost entirely on voluntary contributions.
Shop manager Hendrina Neeld said: "We’re incredibly grateful for the generosity of our supporters, but right now our stock levels are low. If you’re having a winter clear-out or simply want to support a good cause, please consider donating your pre-loved items to us. Every item sold helps fund the vital care we provide to families who need us most.”
Donations can be dropped off during opening hours from 9.30am to 5.30pm between Monday and Saturday and from 10am to 4pm on Sundays.
CHSW is also looking for volunteers who can spare a few hours each week to lend a helping hand at the shop. There are roles to suit all ages and experience, with a particular demand for people to steam garments and work on the till at weekends.
“You’ll be part of a happy, friendly team making a difference,” said area retail manager Jerome Brown. “Whether you’re a student, retired or looking to fill a few hours during the week, we’d love to hear from you.”
