Volunteers from across Cornwall came together to raise money for The Fishermen’s Mission.

Under the banner of “Helping Hands and Pans”, individuals from a variety of industries gave their time, enthusiasm and skills to make a difference to charity.

“The atmosphere was electric and thank you to all who volunteered and bought tickets for this special one-off event,” said one of the volunteers.

The venue was offered by a supporter; a secluded converted barn, that’s not open to the public with a perfect view looking out to Padstow and the sea.

Many well-known, respected chefs all loaned their time and talent to create a delicious menu for the paying guests.

The night raised an impressive and generous, £20,000 for The Fishermen’s Mission.

The charity provides practical welfare support to active, retired as well as families of fishermen.

Fishing is the most dangerous occupation in peacetime and the welfare team are actively in the ports and coves, they are known to the fishing community so there’s a trusted person ready to support, whatever storm from the sea or at home faced the fisherman.

“On behalf of the charity, we are grateful to Helping Hands and Pans and so many for volunteering their time and committing days off to make a difference for fishing families,” said Julian Waring, fundraising manager for The Fishermen’s Mission, Cornwall.

“Everyone worked so hard to create a restaurant in a beautiful location. The room went quiet every time a course came, the food was that impressive, so the band struck up a tune to further entertain everyone!

“On the night I was just in awe of the skills on show and the commitment offered by such a wonderful group of volunteers.”
