CHARGING is being put in place at a public toilet in Newquay.

Newquay Town Council is installing a 50 pence charge unit at the public conveniences at Porth Beach.

A spokesperson said: “This reflects the standard charge already in place across the majority of public conveniences in the town.

“Payments can be made via a contactless system, with a combined contactless and coin unit available for the accessible toilet.

“This decision has been made in response to increasing maintenance costs across the public conveniences estate, largely due to misuse and vandalism.

“Introducing the charge also helps deter inappropriate behaviour, enabling us to maintain safe, clean and well‑managed facilities for all users.

“We anticipate that the toilets will remain open throughout the installation period.”
