EAST End Park in Redruth will be filled with a series of fun, free activities aimed at young people aged between 11 and 18 on Saturday, August 30 from 12pm to 6pm.

The park will play host to a Skatejam led by Team Rubicon, a Community Weave facilitated by local artist Olga Owczarek, and Circus Workshops including Aerial demonstrations by Cirk Hes.

Buglife will be bringing back their popular bug hunts, and Cornwall Butterfly Conservation will be running drop-in workshops throughout the day, celebrating beautiful butterflies.

There will also be a chance for young people to engage with the services, including the police and fire services, who will be bringing along blue light vehicles.

The entertainment does not stop with the workshops and activities. The mainstage will feature a variety of young talent throughout the day, with headlining band Blue Touch Paper bringing the day of music to a close.

In between the music, young comperes will have a chance to build their confidence as they work the crowds. Westcoast Academy will be taking to the sports area to showcase their skills in a series of cheerleading demonstrations.

Charlotte Caldwell, Redruth Town Clerk, said: “Youth Fest is a real celebration led by young people for young people. All of the events have been thoughtfully curated by our Communications Team, with the suggestions coming directly from our fabulous Youth Councillors, with support from our Town Councillors.”

Izzy, Chair of Redruth Youth Council, added: “It has been amazing watching our suggestions for the festival become a reality, and we hope to see as many young people enjoying Youth Fest as possible! As Youth Councillors, we are as passionate about Redruth and how we can make the town and parish better for young people. This festival is just one of many things we hope to do for the young people of Redruth.”

The event, supported by the National Lottery’s Community Fund, has been designed by Redruth’s Youth Council. Young people who live, or attend school, in the Redruth area form Redruth’s Youth Council, who meet once a month to discuss topics centred around young people and Redruth.

Ms Caldwell continued: “It has been inspiring working with our Youth Councillors, who have worked extremely hard to make sure the youth festival is an inclusive event for all to enjoy.

“Following our Youth Councillors' participation at Cornwall Council’s Article 12 Celebration Day, Redruth Town Council voted to work more closely with Redruth Youth Council to consult and keep Youth Councillors informed of decisions made by the full council.

“We hope the youth festival is just one of many ways we can work together for the benefit of residents.”
