A Cornwall-based group of self-catering holiday letting agencies has celebrated the opening of its new offices at Onyx House on the Hayle Business Park following a £2.5m investment.
The project has seen the Sapphire Holidays repurpose a former industrial building into a modern, sustainable home for three of its award-winning brands, and around 60 of its 200-plus staff.
Classic Cottages occupies the ground floor of Onyx House, while Boutique Retreats and Unique Hideaways are based on the mezzanine level. Nearby Sapphire House, which the group built in 2020, continues to house Aspects Holidays alongside group support functions such as HR, IT and accounts.
The new building has been designed with sustainability at its core. Featuring a solar rooftop array and a bank of batteries, the system produces a surplus of electricity, making Onyx House a net generator of energy.
It also benefits from renewable ground source heating thanks to six, 150m-deep bore holes, rainwater harvesting, and eight electric vehicle charging points in its car park, which has been planted as a wildflower meadow to enhance biodiversity.
Simon Tregonning, owner and chairman of Sapphire Holidays, officially opened the new offices in front of more than 100 invited guests.
He said: “As a long-established and family-owned group of businesses, this investment reflects our ongoing commitment to sustainable growth. By bringing everyone together on neighbouring sites we’ve created a modern base for our expanding teams, and we’re very proud to have upcycled an old industrial building into an energy-efficient workspace that reflects our values and ambitions.”
The completion of Onyx House caps a year of strong growth for Sapphire Holidays. The group now employs more than 205 people across the UK and has expanded its footprint through acquisitions in Dorset, North Devon and the Isle of Man during 2025.
Onyx House was designed by Truro-based KAST Architects, who also designed neighbouring Sapphire House, and the build was managed by Ian Cavley of Newquay-based IC Building Consultancy, who also worked on Sapphire House.
