An internationally-celebrated poet has recorded music in Bodmin that explores his experience of living with a neurological disorder and the consequent mental health struggles that can accompany it.

Robert Gillett has recorded the EP ‘Beneath vol. 1’ at the Morvil Studio.

Musician, composer and producer Jennifer Groeber, who runs the recording studio, has been helping Robert put the EP together.

Jennifer, who records under the name Ruinarte, said: “With poignantly simple storytelling and musical inspiration from cinematic sounds to hip-hop, Beneath vol. 1 offers a heartfelt and moving account that reflects the ups and downs of life. Beneath vol. 1 will be part of a larger work of three parts.

“It was an honour to musically explore Robbie’s journey with him and work together on creating a sound that reflected both of our influences and experiences.

“Having had personal and professional experience of mental illness, I find Robbie’s honesty and integrity with which he shares his story very inspiring.

“We were lucky to collaborate with Atom St George for the album cover, who tells his own story of living with MS through the medium of art.

“He finds figures, neurones and monsters lurking in pre-applied random splatters of paint.

“To watch his process in creating is something else.

“I am humbled by the power of both local connections and international reach with Robbie and I being local and Atom living in California.”

Beneath vol. 1 will be available to stream and download on all major music platforms.
