STAFF and residents at a nursing home in Carbis Bay are celebrating after the businesses received a ‘clean bill of health’ by an independent regulator.

Sanctuary Care’s Trewartha Residential and Nursing Home received a ‘Good’ rating from the Care Quality Commission (CQC).

The report for the home, which provides residential, nursing, dementia and respite care, highlighted Trewartha's caring atmosphere, “brilliantly dedicated team” and their commitment to helping residents live truly enriched and meaningful lives.

Residents and their families spoke very highly about the care they received, describing staff as "very patient and caring", with one highlighting how the staff treated their loved one like “the Queen!”. Another echoed these sentiments, explaining: “There is pleasure, you can see it on their faces”, while another resident said they felt “very lucky” to live there.

Inspectors observed how colleagues treated residents with dignity and respect, taking the time to provide support tailored to each individual. Staff also spoke positively about working at the home, describing a supportive culture where their ideas and suggestions are valued.

Inspectors revealed how residents enjoyed a packed programme of experiences designed to keep them active and connected with others.

The report, which rated the home ‘Good’ in every single area, highlighted opportunities for residents to enjoy trips out, including visits to the beach, chosen specifically by residents themselves. One resident told inspectors: “There is always something going on."

The report also mentioned how the not-for-profit Sanctuary Care home offers a variety of welcoming spaces for residents and visitors to enjoy together, including a sociable bar area where family and friends can spend quality time together.

Home manager Julia Tyldesley said: “We are delighted with the feedback from the CQC. It reflects the kindness, dedication and hard work our team shows every day. We want Trewartha to be a place where residents feel safe, valued and at home.”
