A campaign group has been launched to help ensure a Newquay community has a reliable year-round bus service following its main road being closed for four months whilst works to upgrade the gas network takes place.

Better Service Treloggan has been started after Wales and West Utilities announced a rolling road closure will be in place on Treloggan Road, from its junction with Mellanvrane Lane down to its junction with Polwhele Road between Monday, November 10 and Thursday, February 27, 2026, during the project.

Residents fear they will be left with no bus service but the First Bus 87 service is due to divert into Morrison's car park while the road is closed.

A spokesperson for Better Service Treloggan said: “This group was formed as a result of the Treloggan Road closure. This leaves Treloggan with absolutely no bus service over winter when bus users in Treloggan rely on it the most.

“This group aims to bring people together within Treloggan and working to inform residents of bus information and ensure Treloggan has a reliable service all year round.”

Wales and West Utilities’ Natalie Raphael, who is managing the work, said: “We know that working in areas like this is not ideal, but it is essential to make sure we keep the gas flowing to homes and businesses in the area, and to make sure the gas network is fit for the future.

“While most of the gas network is underground and out of sight, it plays a central role in the daily lives of this community. Whether it’s heating your home, making the family dinner or having a hot bath, we understand how important it is for your gas supply to be safe and reliable and there when you need it.

“This work is essential to keep the gas flowing to local homes and businesses today, and to make sure the gas network is ready to transport green gases in the future.”
