More than 1,000 motorcycle enthusiasts got on their bikes to raise more than £5,000 for good causes on Sunday.
Widows Sons Grand Chapter Kernow, which is comprised of Freemasons from all over Cornwall, staged a 60-mile run from Davidstow Airfield, Camelford to Bowden Derra care home in Launceston.
The Masonic bikers, who share the same passion of being motorcycle enthusiasts that not only like to ride together but enjoy raising money for charity when they do it, for the past 25 years
This year, the event dubbed the ‘Egg Run,’ has raised and raised money and provided more than four hundred chocolate Easter eggs with all the proceeds and treats going to local charities Bowden Derra care home, Little Harbour Children’s Hospice South West and The Area Resource Base/ special needs units for Camelford and Launceston.
The bikers, family and supporters enjoyed refreshments and entertainment at Bowden Derra care home, which ended off ‘another fantastic day for all concerned.’
Maria Thorne, the manger at Bowden Derra, said “We were delighted to host the reception of a stunning array of bikers on Easter Sunday following the highly-regarded charity egg run by the Widows Sons Grand Chapter Kernow.
“As almost five hundred bikes trailed their way into Bowden Derra Park, the bewildered awe of the spectators was a sight to see. Thank you for all you do for local charities, it is a pleasure to work with you.”
Alice Merrett, who is the area fundraiser for Little Harbour, Children’s Hospice South West, was delighted to welcome Richard ‘Magpie’ Hallett along with his wife Sue who were representing the Widows Sons along to Little Harbour shortly after the event , as they delivered the Chocolate treats.
Alice said afterwards: “I cannot thank the Widows Sons Grand Chapter Kernow enough for their generous donation of Easter Eggs to little Harbour.
“It really does put a huge smile on the children and young people’s faces, and their families in our care, as well as our care teams. It is such a thoughtful gift around this time of year.”
Preparations are already well underway for the 26th Annual Egg Run which will be held on March 31, 2024.
