THE longest running boxing club in Cornwall, Camborne & Redruth Amateur Boxing Club, has applied to demolish its current building and replace it with modern facilities.
A supporting statement says with the support of funding bodies, including large local support, there is a real opportunity to demolish the existing not-fit-for-purpose building and replace it with a new building.
This would provide two full-size boxing rings, allowing for matches/events to be watched and the other ring to practise.

The planning statement read: “Having this new building will support the club by allowing matches to be aired and allow further funding streams to grow and support the club and be a county showcase. Within the proposal there is a ground floor flexible space, which can be hired / used by other community groups.”
The club provides training for all ages, including offering a minimum cost for young people to try and improve their wellbeing and health. The plan would allow the building to be used more frequently.
In addition, there is a proposed cafe/drinks room located on the top floor to further support the business “and provide an opportunity to view the landscape and understand the history of this area”.
