AN artist staged the grand finale of his nationwide tour raising awareness around mental health in Newquay on Saturday.

Graham Cullis organised dancing, paint splattering, meditation and emotional release at the Killacourt as part of the final free Splat & Splash event.

He has visited 34 towns and communities staging gatherings designed to bring people together through a blend of art, meditation, mindfulness, music and movement.

Supporters who have followed Graham’s journey were in attendance at the grand finale alongside residents, friends and family.

The crowd joined Graham in creating the final artwork of the tour’s collection.

Participants were invited to throw paint onto a blank canvas, with each splat representing emotion, release and connection.

Graham will now paint a final image over the top, which will be inspired by Newquay to create a unique collaborative piece.

The piece will join the other 33 artworks created across the country to be showcased at a major London exhibition at The Bike Shed, Shoreditch on October 16, which is being held to celebrate the completion of the nationwide tour.

The proceeds will go to Your Art Connect CIC, helping fund creative mental health projects for young people and communities.

Graham said: “The journey has been the toughest, most magical and rewarding challenge of my career, which has been made possible by the kindness of strangers, local communities and everyone who turned up along the way.

“People have often walked away with new friends and a genuine feeling of belonging.

“The journey may have ended, but the next chapter is already beginning with the art exhibition.

“I would like to give special thanks to Ant Durkin and sssilentdisco for generously providing the silent disco equipment used throughout the tour, which helped bring people together in towns in England, Scotland and Wales throughout the winter months.”
