The annual fun dog show and fete held at the RSPCA Cornwall branch at Quoit, Saint Columb, proved a spectacular success with several thousand pounds raised.
The money will help care for the ever-increasing number of cats, dogs, rabbits and other waifs and strays needing care and attention in the county.
The four main car parks at the centre were nearly full by 1pm, the barbecue and cake stalls sold right out, the weather continued to play ball, not too hot but nice and sunny and comfortable for humans and doggies alike.
Many people arrived early to register their pets for the various events and visit the trade stands around the arena and all went home, some clutching rosette’s and prizes, saying how much they enjoyed the day which lasted through until 4pm.
A spokesperson said: “Thanks must go to the full-time staff and the regular volunteers who all went that extra yard to make this major fundraising event such a worthwhile success as the normal seven day/365 duties for the “residents” still had to be attended to throughout the day.
“Our branch in Cornwall remains completely independent and is not funded by the RSPCA nationally so your support is the only way we can keep our doors open to animals in need.
“We still need full and part-time volunteers to help in our three charity shops in central Newquay, Truro and Bude plus at branch HQ at Quoit, near to St Columb Major.
“Further volunteer community support officers would also be welcome to help spread the word about our work and help with fundraising in general. Just a few hours per week could make all the difference in the care and treatment of some of our residents and guests that cannot speak for themselves and need a little kindness to restore their trust in humanity.”
