A man has appeared in court after a woman sustained serious injuries in an attack in Newquay where a machete was later seized.

Kai Pink, aged 26, of Pargolla Road, appeared before Bodmin Magistrates Court on Monday charged with Section 18 wounding with intent and possession of an offensive weapon in a public place. 

He was remanded to attend a plea hearing on December 12.

Police received reports of an “altercation" at address in Pargolla Road on Sunday at 3.15am.

A Devon and Cornwall Police spokesperson confirmed: "A woman in her 50s was located with serious injuries. 

"Ambulance attended and the woman was taken to hospital. 

"A man was arrested at the scene. 

"Officers seized a machete-style weapon."
