A LIFEBOAT crew came to the rescue of a stricken sailor in Newquay Bay after coming equipped with a replacement rudder.

Newquay lifeboat volunteers were tasked to assist a small sailing dinghy, which had lost its rudder after being paged on Thursday, September 3 at 5pm The crew promptly launched the charity’s Atlantic 85 B Class lifeboat to assist after collecting a replacement rudder.

The lifeboat volunteers rendezvoused with the stranded sailor and assisted in fitting the new rudder once alongside.

The sailing dinghy was then able to make its own way back to Newquay Harbour under its own steam, escorted by the lifeboat.

A spokesperson for Newquay Lifeboat Station said: “A huge thank you to RNLI Lifeguards Newquay , who helped raised the alarm and were able to rendezvous with the casualty vessel to check on the occupants’ welfare before the lifeboat was launched.”
