A MAN was rescued after becoming stuck on a cliff in Newquay on Wednesday afternoon (December 3).

A member of the Newquay Coastguard rope rescue team was lowered down to pull the casualty to safety at Towan Beach at about 1.15pm. Eyewitnesses believe the man may have climbed the cliff after becoming cut off by the incoming tide.

The RNLI Newquay Inshore Lifeboat and a HM Coastguard Rescue Helicopter were on standby in the area in case they were needed.

The casualty did not require any medical assistance following the rescue.

A spokesperson for HM Coastguard said: “We received reports of a person stuck on cliffs at Newquay. Coastguard Rescue Teams from Padstow and Newquay were sent, along with RNLI Newquay inshore lifeboat and an HM Coastguard Rescue Helicopter. The casualty was located and rescued by the rope rescue team, with no further medical assistance required.”

A spokesperson for Newquay Coastguard Search and Rescue Team added: “We were tasked to the area between Newquay Harbour and Towan Beach after reports came in via 999 of someone stuck on the cliff. A technical rope rescue was assembled and executed with the casualty being safely retrieved to the top of the cliff uninjured. We would like to thank all assets for their assistance.”
