EMERGENCY services were alerted after two kayakers got into difficulty at the Gannel estuary on Saturday night (April 4).

Members of Newquay Coastguard Rescue Team attended the incident, but the kayakers managed to paddle ashore themselves by about 6.55pm.

A Coastguard spokesperson said: “We were tasked to the Gannel after concerns were raised for two kayakers.

”The kayakers were located beaching on the south side of the Gannel after experiencing difficulty in the conditions before making their way up onto the coastpath.

“Team members ensured no one required medical attention before assisting them onwards towards their accommodation.

“We would like to thank the public for all their assistance.

“If anyone see someone in difficulty along the coast dial 999 and ask for the coastguard.”
