A police road safety operation to target dangerous driving in Truro resulted in arrests for drink-driving.

The activity took place on Friday, May 30 across Truro, Tregony and Perranporth following reports from the community about antisocial use of motorcycles in the Hendra area of Truro, and cars in Malpas, Newham and Threemilestone.

Devon and Cornwall Police officers were deployed in marked and unmarked cars, using a number of specialist tactics to target careless drivers and those breaking the law. Officers also carried out high-visibility patrols to deter people from using vehicles antisocially.

Their focus was to identify those purposely making loud noise from engines or from music, and individuals driving recklessly.

During the day of action, police pulled drivers over to carry out roadside checks, including breathalysers and drug swipes. This led to two arrests for driving under the influence of alcohol and one for driving while banned. Three people were also found to be driving without insurance and another for driving at excess speed.

Drivers have been reported and penalties will be issued where appropriate, including speed awareness courses, points on licenses and fines.

This activity was carried out by Truro Neighbourhood Police team, the No Excuses Traffic team and the Neighbourhood Support team.

“We know that dangerous driving is a concern for our communities, especially because of how busy the roads can get throughout the summer months,” said Police Sergeant Dave Pearce. “Activity like this are key in tackling careless driving and those who drive without any consideration for the safety of other road users.”
