Truro Volunteers Day will take place on Lemon Quay on Sunday, June 1, from 1pm.

Volunteer-run with support from Truro City Council, Truro BID and Cornwall Council, the free event is a one-stop shop to promote volunteering opportunities to those with time and energy to offer causes in need of fresh ideas and more hands.

More than 30 groups are set to participate. Organisations seeking youth and adult volunteers include: the Army Cadets, Drums for Fun, the 17th Truro Scouts, Scout Groups Cornwall and St John’s Ambulance.

Those recruiting adult volunteers include CHBN (Community & Hospital Broadcasting Network), the Cinnamon Trust, Community Land Trust, Cornwall Blood Bikes, Cornwall Butterfly Conservation Group, Friends of Daubuz Moor, Home Start Kernow, iSight Cornwall, Kernow Kidney Patients, Maria’s Animal Shelter, National Coast Watch, Roseland Choir, Royal British Legion, Royal Cornwall Hospitals Trust, Shower to Stage Choir, St Francis Dog Home, Truro in Bloom, Truro Diocesan Guild of Ringers, Truro Homeless Action Group, Truro Lions, Truro Loops, Truro Nature Recovery Forum, Truro Nourish Hub and Truro Twinning Association.

Two local choirs will perform live in the hope of attracting new members.

Organiser Paul Caruana said: “Truro relies of a large band of willing volunteers. Our organisations now need new volunteers to help keep them running well into the future.”

For 10 years, Cornwall Blood Bikes has provided a voluntary out-of-hours delivery service for local healthcare providers, including blood and pathology samples.

“Truro Day is a great opportunity for us to tell the public who we are and what we do,” said chair Jayne Penlerick. “We’re a volunteer-run charity, yet people often think we’re part of the NHS or that we’re government funded, neither of which is the case.

“There are around 80 of us, a combination of motorbike riders and non-riding coordinators, and we always welcome new volunteers.”
