Two of the Cornish Pirates’ most experienced forwards, back rower John Stevens and prop Jack Andrew, have signed new one-year contracts with the club.

Skipper Stevens, 28, who was recently named the Supporters’ Player of the Season, is a product of Penzance & Newlyn RFC’s youth section.

He also gained important development time at Redruth early in his senior career after first signing for the Pirates in 2013, for whom he has now made 120 appearances.

Andrew, 32, who joined the Pirates from Plymouth Albion in 2013 and is enjoying a testimonial year, is by a margin the club’s most experienced performer, having made 220 appearances.

Pirates CEO Rebecca Thomas said: “We are delighted to retain both John and Jack for another season.

“They are an integral part to our team, both on and off the pitch, and have a wealth of Championship seasons and experience between them.

“Both proud Cornishmen, their links to the club are deep routed and their commitment has been outstanding for many years.”

She added: “I am sure news of their re-signings will be pleasing to supporters as we start our wave of announcements looking ahead to next season.”
