Godolphin Atlantic have confirmed tonight that they are disbanding as a football club with immediate effect.
The Newquay-based club were second from bottom of the South West Peninsula League premier west division and what has turned out to be their last match was an 8-2 defeat at local rivals Newquay on Boxing Day.
Club secretary Tania Semmens said in a statement: “On behalf of Godolphin Atlantic Football Club we as a committee have decided to disband the club with immediate effect.
“We would like to thank players, managers past and present and supporters for all their help over the years. Regards, Margaret and Tania.”
A statement from the league said: “The league board were saddened to receive notification from Godolphin Atlantic today that they have disbanded their last remaining team. They had already withdrawn their reserves earlier in the season.
“The club cites issues with finance and volunteers.
“The league board recognise these difficult times for clubs with rising costs and are sorry to see the club go.
“However, stats including league tables and forthcoming fixtures will be re-worked over the coming days.”
