TRURO City Reserves secured a second win of the season in South West Peninsula League Premier West on Saturday with a 2-0 success at St Day.
The young City side – many of whom are experiencing Step Six football for the first time this season – have found the going tough in recent weeks, but after Oliver Pickup’s seventh minute opener, Nathanael West sealed all three points late on as they moved level with the Yellows on six points.
That result saw them move off the foot of the table at the expense of Dobwalls who were beaten 3-1 by visiting Wadebridge Town, and Launceston, who have announced the departure of joint boss Neil Price due to family reasons. The Clarets were without a game.
James Green kept up his good form for the hosts with an eighth minute opener, however after Nathan Summers levelled before the break, Town put on the afterburners after the restart against a home side who never really responded as Kyle Flew helped himself to a brace.
At the other end of the table, Liskeard Athletic moved level on points with leaders Elburton Villa with a game in-hand following a 3-0 success at Bude Town.
The Blues, who handed debuts in defence to dual-registered defender Tyler Yendle from Saltash and Charlie Miller, took an early lead through wing-back Ben Collins before George Newton doubled the lead before half-time.
Sub Bailey Mabin ensured victory midway through the second half.
Falmouth Town Reserves missed the chance to go third following a 3-2 defeat at Holsworthy who now occupy the position.
The hosts led 2-0 thanks to penalties from Ben Sharpe and Craig Penberthy, before Fal drew level including one early in stoppage-time. Jak Davies and Thomas Fisher the scorers.
However, Holsworthy won it when Sharpe headed home from six yards.
Wendron are up to fourth after easing past visiting Millbrook 4-1.
Liam Manchip equalised for the Brook after Rio Pledger’s opener, but the Dron powered on and scored three more through Charlie Edney, Ollie Tomlinson and Billy Stone.
