SWPL PREMIER DIVISION WEST (TUESDAY)
Sticker 2 Wendron United 4
THE Dron bounced back from their opening day defeat by Wadebridge with an impressive victory at Burngullow Park on Tuesday night.
This was Sticker’s first league game of the season and they made a great start when Sam Eccleston gave them an early lead inside 90 seconds, directly from a corner.
But on 17 minutes the Underlane outfit were level via Ryan Reeve’s lob over Harry Ashton after man-of-the-match Curtis Smith had picked up possession near the halfway line.
Smith was everywhere and got an assist for the second as his driven shot from a corner was deflected home by striker Charlie Edney, that enough to give Mike O’Neill’s side a 2-1 advantage going into half-time.
But Sticker were much-improved last season and will hope to kick on again, and drew level on 53 minutes as some superb footwork from Ovo Junior saw him curl a fine finish past the despairing dive of Zach Telling.
But Wendron are usually a good bet for a top six finish and regained control, going 3-2 in front when Edney rolled his defender following a pass from Reeve and made no mistake.
Sticker were still in with a chance, but seven minutes from time the Dron doubled their advantage with Smith getting his deserved goal after good work from Reeve and sub Callum Bertrand.
