WESTERN LEAGUE PREMIER DIVISION

Street 6 AFC St Austell 0

IT’S now 14 successive defeats and another six goals conceded for St Austell – but manager Adam Castlehouse will battle on in the hope that their fortunes will soon turn.

Castlehouse said: “I fear I may be becoming a broken record. The lads are trying, but we are just not adapting to the speed and the intensity of the league fast enough.

“We look fearful at times, and that is evident all over the pitch. Indecision as a defensive unit, and panic in attack.

“We are too easy to figure out but unfortunately, we haven’t had too much of a chance to work on things in training as the fixture list is relentless, which is another factor they have to adapt to, both physically and mentally.

“To be fair, Street were worthy winners and were very gracious in victory. There was a fantastic tribute to one of their players (Harry Foster) who was playing his 300th game for the club, a remarkable achievement, so everyone at St Austell would like to congratulate him too.”

Saturday’s game hadn’t even reached the one minute mark when Charlie Bateson fired Street ahead and Lewis Morgan doubled their lead after 26 minutes.

Any hopes that the half-time break make change St Austell’s fortunes were wiped away within a minute of the restart when Freddie Haden made it 3-0 and soon after Callum Laird hit Street’s fourth.

Cue the introduction from the bench after 65 minutes of Foster, and he marked his big day in spectacular style with two goals to complete the rout.

St Austell visit Newquay on Wednesday night (7.30pm).
