South West Peninsula League Premier West round-up – Saturday, November 8
LEADERS Liskeard Athletic remain six points clear of nearest challengers Elburton Villa before their huge clash in Plymouth on Saturday as they ran out 4-0 winners at St Day.
The Blues, who are now unbeaten in their 15 league games, 14 of which they have won, scored via Ryan Richards’ penalty before further efforts from Max Gilbert, Bailey Mabin and sub George Newton.
However, they will be put to the test by a Villa side who won 8-2 at in-form Wadebridge Town on Saturday.
Elburton raced into a two-goal lead inside 13 minutes through Connor Rush’s double before Sonny Dover pulled one back.
Sam Hughes and Adam MacPherson made it 4-1 by the break, and although Alfie Flack reduced the arrears just after the hour, there was still time for James Hamson, Charlie Patrick (2) and Calum Merrin to score.
Penzance are up to third following an impressive 3-1 success at Holsworthy.
Mark Vercesi’s side were 2-0 up at the break with Charlie Willis and Charlie Young on target.
The Cornishmen were by far the better side after the break and Willis’ corner found Young for his second on 74 minutes.
Josh Down pulled one back for Holsworthy late on, but it was Penzance’s day.
At the bottom, Truro City Reserves produced a fine victory at Dobwalls who remain last.
City opened the scoring midway through the first half which ended with Kieran Owen equalising.
However, two City goals in the opening eight minutes after the restart moved them up to fourth bottom.
Sticker were beaten 1-0 by Bude thanks to Aaron Hart’s second half finish, while Camelford won 3-2 at Launceston thanks to Ryan Downing’s hat-trick, the third coming in the fourth minute of injury-time.
Callington moved up to fourth as Will Elliott’s hat-trick helped them thrash Millbrook 5-0.
