Cullompton Rangers 2 Newquay 4

JACK Bray-Evans scored a goal deep into time added on to finally secure Newquay’s progress into the FA Vase’s first round proper after a titanic battle at Speeds Meadow.

The Peppermints were desperately holding on to a 3-2 lead when they broke away and Bray-Evans notched his seventh goal of the season to spark wild celebrations among the visiting supporters.

Manager Shaun Middleton said: “It was another hard game against a strong side so I was really happy to come away with the win.

“We played some really good stuff and looked very dangerous on the break – it was nice to score four really good goals.

“Big thanks to all the supporters who travelled up.”

Buoyed by their 7-1 win in the league at Ivybridge on Wednesday, Newquay were full of confidence and found themselves 2-0 ahead before half-time through Louis Price (30 minutes) and Rhys Simmonds (37).

Aiden Whitefield reduced the arrears three minutes before the break to set up a tense second half but Price’s second goal of the tie 12 minutes from time appeared to give the visitors some breathing space.

But three minutes later Cullompton were back in it when they were awarded a penalty which Lewis Hill converted and with nine minutes plus added time it was game on.

Cullompton pushed hard for an equaliser which would have forced a penalty shootout but Newquay stood firm at the back.

And five minutes into stoppage time Bray-Evans popped up with the Peppermints’ crucial fourth goal.
