WESTERN LEAGUE PREMIER DIVISION

St Blazey 3 Oldland Abbotonians 1

TOM Strike scored twice as St Blazey bounced back at Blaise Park on Saturday after their midweek league cup humbling by Newquay.

The Green & Blacks stretched their unbeaten run in the Premier Division to six games – four draws and two wins – with an impressive performance against Oldland, who played the last hour with 10 men after Jonathan Walker saw red for a second booking.

Blazey appeared to be on the way to another draw with the game poised at 1-1 with 20 minutes to go but two goals in eight minutes settled the issue in their favour.

Strike, who had given the home side a 14th minute lead before Oldland equalised 10 minutes later, got his and Blazey’s second goal after 71 minutes to set up a tense finale.

Oldland searched for an equaliser but they were caught out in the 79th minute when Callum McGhee snatched a vital third goal to make the last 10 minutes less anxious for the home side.

Strike, one of the unsung heroes of this Blazey team, deserved the accolades which followed from team-mates as he bagged his second and third goals of the season.

Reg Hambly, in temporary charge of Blazey, said: “After Wednesday’s cup exit at the hands of Newquay it was nice to bounce back with three points and stretch our unbeaten league run to six.

“We dominated the early stages but Oldland dug in and made it difficult for us, particularly when they were reduced to 10 men.”
