WESTERN LEAGUE PREMIER DIVISION
Barnstaple Town 3 St Blazey 3
ST BLAZEY secured an excellent point away from home on Saturday at Barnstaple Town.
The Green and Blacks made the long trip up to North Devon off the back of defeats to Sidmouth Town and Newquay, but responded with an excellent display against their much-fancied hosts which was capped off by a late header from Jordan Bentley.
Injuries and unavailability meant the Cornishmen travelled with just three substitutes, and their task looked even tougher when the hosts eased into a 2-0 lead helped by two superb free-kicks from Gabby Rogers.
However, the visitors were level early in the second half through Tom Hensman having pulled one back just before the break via Tyler Elliott.
Barum grabbed a third through Tommy Rogers, but just as it looked Blazey would go home empty-handed, their man-of-the-match Bentley headed home to the delight of the travelling supporters.
Reflecting on the game, Blazey boss Mark Carter said: “Yesterday was a much better performance than in midweek.
“Falling behind to two moments of individual brilliance with the set pieces, it would have been easy for us to roll over and lose the game. Despite the scoreline we were by far the better team, but couldn’t find the final pass.
“We then got important goals either side of the half-time break and at that point there only looked to be one winner.
“But when falling behind against the run of play, the character shown to dig deep and get a deserved equaliser was really pleasing.
“Special mention to Jordan Bentley who grabbed the equaliser and put in a superb performance at the back.”
ST BLAZEY: Kyle Moore; Will Tinsley (capt), Jordan Bentley, Charlie Hambly, Tom Strike; Sam Clifton, Rio Daly; Tyler Elliott, Callum McGhee, Tom Hensman; Alfie Fothergill. Subs: Harley Smith, Harley Collier, Harry robyn.
