NINE years of development as a team and individuals is coming to a close at the end of the season.
St Cleer & Liskeard Youth FC Under 16s players will go their separate ways into men’s football after a magical nine years.
It all started back in 2014, with a group of seven year olds playing under the name of Liskeard Juniors FC in the East Cornwall Youth League.
Many players have left who have gone on to feature for other clubs or moved away. However, out of the original boys, three have remained and over the years have moved up through to the age groups to the present day Under 16s team.
In 2019, due to the size of the club and the need for a better home for facilities and pitches, the Liskeard-based club decided to move out to St Cleer as their own youth set-up had recently disbanded.
The club renamed itself St Cleer & Liskeard Youth FC to merge and include both Liskeard and St Cleer as well as incorporating the original name and the change of location.
Within the same year, the team moved to the Devon Junior & Minor League in Plymouth as the Under 13s.
Now, in 2023, the current group of youngsters are in their final stages of their youth career before many of them embark on their new journeys into men’s football next season.
Before their time with St Cleer & Liskeard YFC comes to an end, though, the team still have three league games left as they bid to finish in a respectable top half position in their respective division.
The icing on the cake for the players is a cup final against Elburton Villa in May when they have the chance to win their first trophy together.
Wouldn’t that be something?
