EDEN MOTORHOMES DIVISION TWO T20 CUP QUARTER-FINALS ROUND-UP
STITHIANS, Mullion, Wadebridge Seconds and Holsworthy will compete at Finals Day at Redruth in August following Thursday night’s quarter-finals.
Stithians, runaway leaders in Division Two West, welcomed East high-flyers St Blazey, but it was the hosts that ran out comfortable six-wicket winners.
Blazey chose to bat but were restricted to just 86-9 from their 20 overs as the home attack, led by former Premier League players Glyn Furnival (1-8) and Ryan Edwards (3-15) gave little away.
Blazey lost openers Rory Dixon (1) and Ben Griffiths (0) cheaply, and although Matt Bennetts (11) and Ruhann Brenner (21) rebuilt somewhat, from 37-2 five wickets fell for just seven runs.
It needed Josh Carne (17) and Simon Dixon (18) to give them a tiny chance.
Nithin Gowda continued his outstanding form with 2-9 from his four overs, but the hosts were home in 16.3 overs with former Blazey opener Simon Danby 48 not out.
Down at Mullion, the the Gulls saw off Penzance Seconds by 46 runs at Garro Lane.
Mullion got off to a flyer through Jonty Wheatley (17), Sam Arthur (17) and James Dark (11), but from 49-2 they slipped to 105-9 despite 41 from number four, Joe Cockings.
Former first-teamer Giles Lawrence took 4-26, while Noah Kitchen (1-19) and Matt Stevens (2-23) shared wickets in the middle.
However, an unbeaten last wicket partnership between Max Roberts (17no) and Dylan Mitchell (2no) helped the hosts reach 130-9.
Penzance never seriously threatened the target.
They lost key men Alex Ridd (9) and Matt Stevens with just 10 on the board, and although Lawrence made 41 from number three, nobody made more than Jacob Pentecost’s eight.
Star of the show was Arthur with 1-5 from his four, while Matthew Turner ran through the lower order with figures of 4-9 from just 14 balls as the visitors were dismissed for 84 with 16 balls remaining.
Wadebridge Seconds are through after fighting back to earn a six-wicket success at neighbours Lanhydrock.
The home side were racing along with Amir Khan smashing the bowling to all parts in his 66 which included five fours and as many sixes, three of which went into the National Trust car park, but bar Christian James’ 31, nobody really got going as they were dismissed for 133 in 18.5 overs.
Alek Gill took 2-35 but it nephew Kieran, now bowling off-spin, that ran through the tail with 4-10 from 2.5 overs towards the end.
The chase dominated by a superb 75 not out from Jamie Beare.
After fellow opener Charlie McLachlan fell lbw for 14 to Rowan Evans (1-19) and James Cox went for four to Christian James, it was the partnership with stand-in skipper Paul Menhenick (22) that proved decisive as the hosts searched for wickets.
Jacob Eldridge (2-25) dismissed Menhenick and Charlie Ellis (4), but Beare stood firm as his innings which contained seven fours and four sixes, got them home with 15 balls to spare.
The other tie saw 2023 champions Holsworthy edge past Callington Seconds by 13 runs having posted 147-7.
