Bond Timber Cornwall Cricket League County Division One round-up - Saturday, July 5

FALMOUTH made it two wins on the spin as they beat St Austell Seconds off the the final ball at Wheal Eliza.

The Trescobeas-based outfit are now 14 points clear of second bottom St Erme who saw their home clash with Perranporth called off without a ball being bowled which was also the case for matches at Beacon, Paul and Roche.

Falmouth unsurprisingly chose to field after winning the toss in a match reduced to 20 overs, and made it difficult to score, particularly for James Carter (11 off 18) before he was caught behind by Aidan Carter of Isaac Hurtel-Hymans.

The dangerous Steve Raven (19) got three fours and a six away, but he departed at 47-2 when he offered a return catch to Perran Burley.

Scott Barrott’s 15-ball stay for six was ended when he was bowled by Hurtel-Hymans, but the talented Jack Mallet ensured the Saints had a chance as he finished 57 not out from 51 balls with eight fours as they closed on 129-4.

Adrian Noott (1-21) and Rhys McGowan (0-17) went at less than a run a ball.

Falmouth’s innings also started slowly as they found themselves 55-3 after 10 overs with only Noott (29 off 29) showing any fluency.

Forty-nine were needed off the last five overs, but Falmouth rose to the challenge with 13 coming off the 16th which saw James Tomlinson bowled by Henry Johnson for 22.

Twenty came off the next two meaning meaning 16 were required off 12.

Nine came off the 19th which included a Burley boundary, which meant James Carter had seven to defend off the last.

Five came off the first three before Burley was caught and bowled for 16, but after a dot ball, two leg-byes were enough.
