BRITANNIA INN HAWKEY CUP SEMI-FINAL (WEDNESDAY)
St Austell 116-7 (20), Grampound Road 119-5 (17.2).
GRAMPOUND Road reached a first Hawkey Cup final in five years as they shocked neighbours St Austell by five wickets last Wednesday night.
The Saints had thrashed the Roadies just 11 days earlier in the league, but the T20 format proved a different story.
St Austell chose to bat but found opening bowlers David Neville (1-21 off 4) and Nathan Keevil (1-17 off 3) tough to get away, before the off-spin off Neville accounted for Sri Lankan pro Thevindu Dickwella (6).
Adam Snowdon was promoted up the order and made 26 from 24 balls, but they could only reach 33-1 after the six-over powerplay.
Snowdon departed at the end of the eighth over which brought dangerman Alex Bone to the wicket, but he struggled to 11 off 12 before being caught by Tom Orpe off Antony Angove.
Jarman made 32 but took up 43 balls, and it needed a sprightly 28 from 20 balls by Gary Bone to help the Saints reach 116-7. Angove was the pick of the attack with 3-16 off four.
Grampound knew one big partnership could prove decisive, as would be making use of the powerplay.
Dave Hoskings made 10 in just five balls before falling to Snowdon, and although Angove made 25, his departure to Gary Bone made it 55-4 at the halfway stage.
But Sri Lankan pro Ravi Karunarathna made 32 from just 21 balls to break the back of the chase as he and wicket-keeper Harry Gregory (17no) added 38 off the next five overs.
Karunarathna fell to the excellent Andrew Libby (2-22 off 4), but 13 came off the 17th bowled by Connor Cooke before successive Jack Mingo boundaries saw the hosts home and into the final against Wadebridge at St Austell on Wednesday, June 25 (6pm).
