ECB CORNWALL PREMIER LEAGUE ROUND-UP – SATURDAY, JULY 19
LEADERS Penzance will visit second-placed Wadebridge on Saturday with just a five-point advantage after the rain failed to do them any favours on Saturday.
Their eagerly-anticipated clash with fellow title hopefuls Helston never really got going as just 20 overs were possible at St Clare.
The hosts did motor along to 129-3 after 20.3 overs, but after going going off for a third time, never returned to the field.
The play which did happen was exciting as Christian Purchase (29 off 18), Charlie Sharland (41no off 47) and Nic Halstead-Cleak (26no off 27) got in, while Ryan Tonkin (2-47 off 8) got some reward.
To make matters worse for both sides, Wadebridge were just two runs ahead at Truro when they went off for the final time.
Truro had earlier made a highly-competitive 223-7.
After openers Harry Phillips and Charlie Kent put on 68, the innings was taken on by Akhilesh Sahani (21), Ted Phillips (54) and Wilf Bartlett (32no) although Callum Wilson (0-28) and Matthew Lawrence (2-28) gave away little.
Truro opened the bowling with left-arm spinner Neil Ivamy who took 1-31 from his 10, but with the Swans 77-2 after 21 overs and the game right in the balance, play was suspended.
It meant Truro got just five points for a fine performance, while Wadebridge went away knowing they had had the perfect day.
St Just are 15 points clear of trouble as the rain came in at home to St Austell.
In a 43-over game, the visitors amassed a highly-competitive 205-7 based around 66 from opener Dan Jarman.
That platform allowed the Bone brothers - Mike (20), Alex (26) and Gary (36no) to take them beyond 200, that despite 4-33 from the in-form Ellis May.
St Just were struggling at 40-3 after 12 overs with Adam Snowdon taking 2-12 from his five overs.
