BOND TIMBER CORNWALL CRICKET LEAGUE COUNTY DIVISION ONE (SATURDAY)

Perranporth 121 (35.2), Newquay 122-9 (39).

GANGUL Ravina held his nerve superbly as Newquay ensured the league double over neighbours Perranporth with a thrilling one-wicket victory at Reen Manor Parc.

Newquay made the short trip without the likes of skipper Adam Cocking and bowlers Jack Howarth and Jack Crichton, but put in a fine bowling performance to dismiss the hosts for just 121.

New ball bowlers Jon Hancock (3-34) and Glenn Burgess (4-32) did much of the damage as the latter, who has been in fine form the seconds in recent weeks, had openers Harry Watkins (4) and Bryn Evans (2) caught behind by Matt Millward.

Wickets continued to tumble to both men as the Pilchards slipped to a scarcely believable 34-7 in just 8.1 overs.

But the home side went into the day fourth for a reason in their debut second-tier campaign and fought back to reach 121 all out.

Number eight James Hall led the way with 38, while Louis Rudin (11 off 33), Tyler Murrell (17no off 57) and Muzz Murrell (5 off 18) dug in as spinners Toby Chillingworth (1-16) and Joe Crane (1-26) gave little away.

Despite Travis Woolston dismissing Crane and Millward early on, Newquay were on course to victory through the Jenkins – Callan (30) and Adam (16) as they reached 58-2 in the 17th over.

Both men went with no score added before remarkably, three wickets fell with the score at 76, two of them to the left-arm spin of promising youngster, Bryn Evans.

But Ravina – batting at number six – found support from Chillingworth (17), but he and Burgess departed to Evans (5-25) with 106 on the board and 16 still required.

However, last man Lyal Schumann (2no) dug in as Ravina (26no) held his nerve to settle a thriller.
