Bond Timber Cornwall Cricket League County Division One round-up - Saturday, May 23

HAYLE’S fine bowling attack once again did the damage as they recorded a third straight win with a seven-wicket success at Newquay who dropped to the foot of the County Divisiotable.

The West Cornwall outfit dismissed the hosts for just 79, opener Joe Crane batting through for 34 as nobody else bar Gangul Ravina (17) reached double figures. Tom Sharp took 5-8 from just 4.2 overs at the end after James Franklin (2-34) and Dan Lello (2-8) snared two apiece.

Despite left-arm spinner Tom Owen’s 2-26, the Hayle reply was led by Dan Lello’s 33 in a comfortable chase.

Perranporth had an even better day at home to Roche who were bundled out for just 75, second change bowler JJ Webber taking 6-22.

Travis Woolston, who earlier took 2-14 from 10 overs, then blasted 41no off just 20 balls as the game was done in exactly six overs.

Elsewhere, Paul are four behind Hayle after a 41-run success at Falmouth.

The visitors were 113-7 before making 197 all out, Will Trenoweth (43) and Keiran Bowden (41) the main run-getters as opening bowlers Haydn Ayres (3-34) and Adrian Noott (2-30) shared five.

Falmouth started well through Harry Phillpot (50), Ayres and Noott in reaching 86-1, however they had no answer to change bowlers Ben Brooks (2-32), Neil Pengelly (3-15) and Keiran Bowden (2-30) before South African all-rounder Peter Gildenhuys (3-16) wrapped up the tail. The final five wickets went for 16 runs after Aidan Carter and Charlie Baker got in.

Relegated Truro saw off fellow title hopefuls Beacon in convincing fashion at Boscawen Park.

Chips-in all the way down – including 40 from both Charlie Kent and Rob Harrison, the latter who was not out saw them reach 235-8 before the visitors were dismissed for just 138 as Max Collins, Adam Price and Jack Ivamy took two wickets apiece.

For the visitors, Ryan Clark made 29 not and took 2-33, while Dan Mellor made 34 on a rare appearance from number three.

Stithians ran out comfortable winners at fellow promoted side Luckett by 87 runs.

Both teams knew that victory was important in their quest to stay up, and the hosts got off to a fine start as Ryan Brown dismissed the in-form Simon Danby for just four.

Matthew Ellis hit 33 in good time before falling to James Wilkinson who bowled superbly at one end for his 1-19 off 10 miserly overs.

The rest of the innings was based around 78 from Ryan Edwards and 47 from Nathan Strick which allowed some fireworks towards the end. Brown had the unusual figures of 3-80 from just seven overs, while Leion Cole continued his fine start to the season with 2-37 from his 10.

Luckett’s top three is as good as most in the division, but soon lost Toby May and Brown to Ryan Mitchell.

Henry Wilkinson soon went as well (27-3), but Luke Brenton was flying at the other end as he picked up a succession of boundaries.

He and skipper Andrew Hoskin (20) took the score to 111 when Hoskin was caught behind, and although Brenton and James Wilkinson put on 28, they both departed with 139 on the board.

Debutant James Moon struck 18 in good time, but they were all out for 180.
